Well, I’m officially seven days behind on the challenge to “make” something every day in December. This is day 17 and I’ve made 10 things. Although I’m technically “losing,” I do want to keep going. Taking this on has helped me to realize two things.
First, I make a lot less than I thought I did. I felt like I constantly make things at work, but I’ve realized that much more of my day is spent in administrative tasks. Also, the things I do make tend to be bigger projects that take a longer time.
Second, focusing on making things has been rewarding. Although I haven’t been able to make something on a daily basis, it’s been rewarding to complete the things that I have done.
As for today’s thing, yesterday and today we’ve had our first winter storm. Yesterday afternoon a car slid off the road in front of our house and demolished our mailbox. It was a hit and run. Our mailbox was sent flying ten feet into the snow on our front yard. The wood frame was completely shattered. We needed a new mailbox.
I started on the project last night with a trip to Lowe’s for lumber, stain, and some screws. I got the wood cut and stained last night. This morning I built the frame, added the metal box and house numbers, and then secured the whole thing to the existing post. We’ve now got a new mailbox!
